Employment Type & Compensation: Part time; hourly; non-exempt.  15-20 hrs/wk.  $20.00/hr.

  • Actual hours worked may vary based on seasonal workload, with increased hours during busier periods and fewer hours during slower seasons.  Any adjustments to weekly hours will be communicated in advance and made in accordance with our organizational policies.

  • Flexible schedule, with some availability during standard business hours and ability to work certain evenings or weekends for the Center’s programs and events.

Organization: The John Paul II Center for Theology of the Body exists to ignite the hearts of men and women with the Good News of love, sex, marriage, and the body so that we may truly live it and wholeheartedly proclaim it.  Abiding in Jesus and His Church, we are forging a culture of communion steeped in our core values: Incarnation, Celebration, and Invitation.  We strive to provide a house of formation for men and women seeking to grow in healing, holiness, and their God-given humanity by forming youth, equipping adult leaders, and evangelizing culture.  Formally staffed by two employees, our efforts are strengthened and multiplied by an impressive lead volunteer team (all former program participants) and other dedicated collaborators.  With great confidence that financial support follows fervent service, we expect to add at least one more formal staff member by the end of 2025.

 

Position Summary & Fidelity Requirements: The Administrative Assistant is responsible for the good of the organization, sharing the organization’s faith tenets, and the furtherance of its mission.  Supporting the Executive Director and leadership team, he or she works to accomplish the mission and purpose of the Center by fulfilling administrative and team responsibilities.  The Administrative Assistant must be in full agreement with and attest to the organization’s Christian mission and theology.  One who serves in this position reports to the Executive Director.

 

Responsibilities & Duties: Administrative leadership of organization in prayer and character as well as in stewarding and furthering the Center’s mission.  Specific duties include participation in the building of a healthy organization and supporting the organization’s leadership team in:

  • the planning and execution of events (this may include the development and presentation of occasional Theology of the Body talks as delegated by the Executive Director)

  • grant writing and research

  • the administration of the Center’s programs, especially the Catholic Academy for Life Leadership

  • various member engagement efforts such as maintaining member database, website, and social media as well as creating promotional materials and e-newsletters

  • any job-related tasks as assigned by the Executive Director

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Team player and leader with enthusiasm for both common and individual goals

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently by establishing and executing immediate, intermediate, and long-term goals

  • Understanding of and commitment to the Catholic Church, its teachings, and its ministerial obligations

  • Ability to work well with persons at parishes, dioceses, schools, and other entities

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to initiate and maintain collaborative relationships and to represent the Center and its mission

  • Ability to collaborate on the planning process and the successful execution of annual fundraiser and other events/programs

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications including Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Working knowledge of social media platforms and website development platforms along with the ability to design flyers via Canva or some other layout program

  • Valid AZ driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout Phoenix and beyond as needed

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church

  • 0-2 years of experience in a related position

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Bilingual abilities preferred

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.  This job often occurs via remote work and meetings around the general Phoenix area.

 

Physical Demands

The day to day duties are largely sedentary and interpersonal.  Some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. However, JPII Center events and programs typically involve being on one’s feet for extended periods of time, and may include set up/tear down and other mildly strenuous activities.  This job often requires travel around the Phoenix area, with telework being a normal and legitimate resource.
